This blog, by Chloe Baker and Oliver Johnson, describes our journey by land and sea from Lesbos Island in Greece to southern Germany in December 2015. We are both doctors with experience in humanitarian and development issues and undertook the trip in order to better understand the situation for refugees along the Balkan Route and what we all, including the UK Government, need to do to improve the situation.

Afghan Family on Arrival
Asad and his extended family arrived this morning by boat from Turkey, having left Afghanistan 2 weeks ago. They're drying their clothes and bags in the sun, and washing and reassuring their children at the MSF transit camp. "When can we go to to register? Do you know?" he asked us. "We're hoping to go to Belgium, my brother is there and says it's good" #SearchingSafePassage
